I hope you haven’t forgotten about B. Kliban.

Who could forget the classic “Whack Your Porcupine” ?

I’m still quite the fan, but I was raised by Ghengis and Sylvia Khan.

I will never forget B. Kliban, creator of the Orifice Building, the General Electric Invisible Cat, “Houdini Escaping from New Jersey” and “Quick as a Wink, the sly cat had eaten Monroe’s cheese sandwich.”

Oh, but how could I forget this?  “Dirty Fat Person Sits on President’s Face” was a big hit with my then-four-year-old brother.  I think it was the noticeable Reagan pompadour on the president that sold him on it.

(Ms. Khan, always a pleasure to see you here.)

We celebrate “kick a cat” day EVERY day!

I’ve had two of Kliban’s cartoons floating around my desktop (the real one, not the computer) ever since college.  I have no idea how they’ve kept themselves from getting lost all these years.  They’re cutouts from an old 1981 calendar, made of thick card stock, and have served many, many times as excellent bookmarks.

The first is “Monroe is visited by the oral hygiene fairy”, and the second, “Lucille was secretly thrilled when Norman sucked her toaster.”

I never thought about it much, but I guess they both have something to do with love and beauty.  You know, in an odd, toaster-sucking way.

I almost ordered all of the Kliban books the other day off of Amazon, and even went as far as filling out the order form.  But then at the last minute I couldn’t remember my Amazon account name or password and gave up.

I bet if Kliban were alive he would have drawn a cartoon about computer passwords.  I would have loved to seen it.
