Let’s just pretend that Nano kicks off on November 8th, rather then the first.  50,000 words in three weeks.  Sounds even more exciting that way, don’t you think?

Between the refinancing, a weekend visit from the in-laws, my son’s birthday party this weekend, and roughly two hours of crying telephone calls each and every day, this week might as well not exist when it comes to writing.

But my frustration and anger levels are stirring up quite nicely.  By the time I get writing, I should have a character ready to really rip into someone.  Me?  I’m doing my best to stay calm and collected.  Right now I’m sitting cross-legged in the front yard, naked, pretending to be Buddha.  Funny, how many people walk by and pretend not to notice me.  I’m Buddha, for crying out loud!  Engage me!  Share in my carefree spirit!  Let your dogs sniff me, I don’t care.  I won’t bite!

Gosh, Buddha, do you have some kind of wireless hookup directly to your brain? Or is that a laptop on your capacious lap?

Now there’s a nice little twist on the “or are just happy to see me” joke.

Okay.  We’ll say it starts 11/8.  But If there’s going to be a lot of anger going around, I’d like my character to be on the butt-kicking side rather than the butt-kickee.  Can we arrange that?  Maybe something like:

‘Mouse walks into through a swirl of cigarrete smoke, slams his beefy hand down on the bar with a resounding “whack,” sets his 320-pound Samoan frame down on a groaning barstool and growls, “Goddamn Bush supporters piss me off.  Who in here voted for that little monkey-faced prick anyway.  I’m gonna kick their ass.”

I’ve always wanted to be a Samoan.  Fiction is great!

I think a big Samoan named Mouse could find a place in any story.  You’re in!

I agree:  a Samoan named Mouse is definitely a “keeper” character.

I hope things settle down a bit for you.
