The truth is that I have no idea what I think I’m doing, other than I promised a Christmas story and now feel compelled to give one, which somehow lead me one way or another to a story about Christmas teeth.  Christmas teeth?  What the hell are Christmas teeth?  I’m here right now to tell you, dear readers, that I have just about as much of an idea as you do.  Yes, it’s true.  I’m afraid my Christmas story is going to turn out to be about something I know nothing about.

I’ll sleep on it tonight, and hopefully, dream about these so-called Christmas teeth, whatever they might be, and that in the morning, when the sun finally comes up on another day and the frost on the lawn begins to slowly give way to the green underneath, I’ll know just what it is I need to say; my path will be obvious, my story ready to be told.

`Twas the night before the story, when all through the house
Not a single thought stirred, to support or espouse;
The premise was written, then blogged with great care,
In hopes that by morning the ideas would be there.
The writer himself then shuffled off to his bed,
Hoping visions of Christmas teeth would dance in his head.

didn’t Freud think that dreams about teeth were dreams about mortality?

It’s been a while since I’ve heard a good Christmas Mortality Story.

I just keep wondering if Captain Skitchhead will show up in this holiday tale…

I remember there being some specific meaning attached to the dream where a person was losing their teeth, but I don’t recall what it is.  I’ve never been haunted by dreams of teeth, but I’ve talked to people who have.

Did I dream of teeth last night?  No, of course not.  I guess that means I’m on my own this morning to come up with something.

As for Captain Skitchhead appearing in a Christmas story, there is no telling.  If I recall those 8th grade tales correctly, he was prone to show up just about anywhere.

Every once in a while I have a dream where I chomp into something and all my teeth fall out at once. Yuck. It is kind of festive, though. Xmas is very much like having all your teeth extracted, in many ways.

If you’re losing teeth in the dream, it means you’ve lied to someone or fear having misled someone.

i have that dream, too, only i don’t chomp anything, they just start to crumble and fall out ping ping ping.  what is it freud would say about us?  aha! vagina dentata (which jo so ably illustrated for us on her blog back when she could get to it,) fear of castration, yada yada, freud is always so helpful, i actually haven’t been afraid of castation for awhile now.

Now I’m getting all charged up to write a christmas story too. How fun! As if I will actually get around to it! It’s like sending out cards. AS if!

As if I’ll finish mine.  I can see it now… what?  The Christmas Teeth?  No, no, no, I meant to call it The Easter Teeth all along.

I remember back in the days when folks were doing lots of blow that the teeth falling out was a really regular one.

I often dream that I’ve gotten a really bad haircut before an important event.

If I were you, I’d rewrite the gift of the Magi for your Xmas story, only with a bite.

Really take my Christmas Teeth story over the top, huh?

The Christmas Overbite.
