Change is good, and I have much to say about it. Later.
The new design works in Safari and Firefox. Not yet tested in Internet Explorer, but I’m imagining some ugliness.

Consistency is good. I like the look.
I liked the color from the Scrinecast site so much that I decided it needed to be here as well. Plus, I’ve gotten better at the code stuff, which basically means that looking over my old code gives me a headache because it really is a mess, however functional it may be.
The main motivation behind the change however was simplicity. I found myself craving a cleaner, yet more colorful look. This is the result.
Looks good to my IE via DSL connection.
But not as good as it should. Some things I can fix, some I can’t. For instance, the text of the entries in all other browsers floats on a semi-transparent box, not white, letting the background bleed through nicely. I’m in love with the effect. There’s nothing I can do for IE users about that one. I think there’s a code fix, but way, way above my head. The IE folks claim that this will change with the release of IE7, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
And you might not be seeing the titles to the individual entries, which should float above that white box. The titles are visible in all other browsers. I should be able to fiddle around with that one, however, and make it work.
While not at its prettiest in IE, at least it’s functional. Like me in the morning.
Oops. I just discovered that I haven’t fixed the comment preview page. But it works. Unlike me in the morning.
Solution: All IE users should switch to Firefox.
I like the new look.
The site looks fantastic in Opera, as well. Great work.
You’re right. I can’t see what I can’t see. I reserve the right to be impressed with the semi-transparent box when/if it ever appears for me.
I must say, however, I am a big fan of white backgrounds for reading type—especially if it’s anything I care about or want to remember. Anything on a complicated background goes in my eyes and out some other orifice even faster than normal.
I can certainly understand the white background thing.
One of the goals of the redesign was to clean up the code so that I could make the site easily skinnable, like over at Scrine. The problem is that the Scrine code is also a bit cluttered, and they all need to work seamlessly, so I’ll go clean that up next.
Then once everything is neat and tidy, you’ll basically be able to make this site and the others appear in a multitude of ways - whichever works best for your particular needs. Such as white backgrounds, or imageless, for those with low-speed dialup connections.
i like it this way, this is the best yet. such a nice picture of you at the top, too, it’s like talking to a person even!
It’s warm and dark and comforting without being muted. The texture keeps it from being static. The font keeps it from taking itself too seriously.
Or maybe I just like orangey yellow with a smudge of red.
I think that orangey yellow smudge of red thing is the color I subconsciously want to paint my living room walls. That been-around-for-centuries-adobe, many coats of paint look. And yes, I think colorful but warm is exactly the look I was seeing in my head. Or I could just have fever.
Keith, I like the change, but there are no datestamps on your posts. Whaddya say? I get so disoriented if I don’t know how late I am visiting other people’s blogs. (Unlike God, I cannot figure out the RSS feed system.)
I may be able to accommodate adding dates. I will call a meeting of the aesthetics committee this afternoon, see what they have to say. (Bunch of fruity, artsy-fartsy types, if you ask me.)
